Washington Post featured this here. They apparently understood this graphic:
You could create the same diagram for all the ingredients with overlapping flavor compounds, as in this diagram. There are six that have overlap. (Again, ignore the math.)
Which six?
It's poorly worded, and the illustration doesn't help, but what they mean is that any four ingredients can be combined to create six unique ingredient pairs, which are shown around the outer circle. It reads like the writer of the article didn't really understand the original paper.
